Work on the Arsuz-Samandag highway which will connect the two touristic districts of Hatay has come to an end.
“This road not only connects two districts but opens the gates of Samandag, one of the most beautiful places in Turkey, for tourism,” said Hatay Governor Rahmi Doğan.
The coastal road connecting Arsuz-Smandagh in Hatay will be end soon.
The total length of the road is 50 km, but because 26 km of it is not suitable for transportation, drivers have to use the 112-kilometer Antakya-Iskenderun road.
Work on this route began in March and It is planned to open at the end of the year.
This road will reduce the duration required to travel between these districts from 2.5 hours to 40 minutes.
Works near completion on the coastal road
Hatay Governor Rahmi Doğan stated that the works on the road started about six months ago and 238 vehicles were used and 2.5 million cubic meters of material were transported.
Doğan confirmed that work was continuing and said, “The tender was launched to repair the road in March and we invited the biggest Turkish companies to the tender and it was won by a local company.
The road repair work is nearing completion and except 3 kilometers the whole road is ready for asphalt.”
The road will stimulating tourism in the region
Doğan stated that some restaurants and cafes will be built along the road. “This location will be very nice because the Arsuz population normally around 90 thousand but in summer its population reaches 350-450 thousand.
These people want to go to Samandağ but they will need 4-5 hours,” said Dogan.
“When the road is completed, the distance will be reduced to 40 minutes,” Governor Doğan said, “Tourists will be able to visit Samandag, which has one of the world’s longest beaches and see the beautiful nature and Titus Tunnel.

We hope we will finish the road before the end of the year.
