Bingöl Yukarı Kaleköy Dam is the first in the world
Bingöl Yukarı Kaleköy Dam, made by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, was the world winner at the Roller Compacted Dams Congress held in China.
According to AA correspondent, Bingöl Yukarı Kaleköy Dam represented Turkey at the Roller Compacted Dams Congress held in China.
The International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) is composed of 8 people and Turkey has won 6 votes for the Yukarı Kaleköy Dam, ranking first in the competition among 9 candidates.
It was stated that the dam was chosen first because of various factors such as completion rate, design, on-site organization, and installation of concrete structures.
Yukarı Kaleköy Dam and Hydroelectric Power Station (HES) are located on Murat River in Solhan district of Bingöl.
Construction of the dam began last year and is the seventh-largest dam in Turkey in terms of installed capacity.
Among the projects carried out by the private sector, the dam is the largest (HES) project in terms of productive capacity.

With an annual production of 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, the dam meets all the electrical energy needs of 454 thousand 595 people
(such as housing, industry, subway transportation, government offices, environmental lighting, etc.).
If only the energy produced is used in homes, the project can meet the electricity needs of 477 thousand 686 houses.
The Roller-Compacted Concrete technique used in dam construction is widely applied in road and dam construction in recent years in Turkey.
In this method, concrete is transported by truck or belt system and compacted by vibratory roller.
Turkey sign new records
The General Manager of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works Mevlüt Aydın stated that Turkey has established the highest dams in the world in their category, and major water projects continue at full speed.
“We have completed the Ermenek and Deriner dams, one of the world’s largest dams.
Now we are signing new records. The construction of the Yusufeli Dam, which will be the third-largest dam in the world with a height of 275 meters, is continuing rapidly.
The Yukarı Kaleköy Dam is also one of the largest in the world. That’s why I thank everyone who contributed to this work,” Aydın said.
